Strengthening regional pharmaceutical and other healthcare-linked value chains is a key priority for the pan-African agenda. With the adoption and operationalization of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), several opportunities have opened for investment, regional trade and strengthening healthcare systems on the continent.Switzerland plays a key role in global life sciences in two ways. Firstly, many major multinational pharmaceutical companies originate from or are headquartered in Switzerland with several life sciences hubs/ecosystems located across the country that include a significant number of innovative SMEs. Secondly, international Geneva is home to many global healthcare and international trade networks. These global companies, international organizations and networks all operate within African healthcare ecosystems as well as pharmaceutical value chains and have a role to play in improving the health of populations on the African continent. This event, organized in partnership with the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations IFPMANovartis and Inqaba Biotec, takes place in the lead-up to the AfCFTA Business Forum (16-19 April 2023) where pharmaceutical value chains will be a key focus of the program. The objective is to bring together Swiss-based networks and the broader ecosystem active on the African continent, to discuss the status of engagements around the strengthening of healthcare systems and pharmaceutical value chains in the region as well as the rapidly evolving pan-African institutional landscape that will shape healthcare systems on the continent going forward. Exact date and timing to be announced soon.
