Africa Business Day

The AFRICA BUSINESS DAY is the largest annual platform in Switzerland for doing business in and with Africa. This year the event will be hosted by Novartis and will take place on 27 June 2024 at the Novartis Campus in Basel under the patronage of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO and organized by the Swiss-African Business Circle. The event will bring together CEOs, managing directors, country managers, business development managers, export managers, bankers, investors, government official and representatives of Swiss and African Embassies/Missions to exchange on issues that affect them directly in their day-to-day business.

Investing in Africa’s Future: Spotlight on Large-Scale Projects

Aligned with the objectives of the African Union’s Agenda 2063, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and numerous regional and national development plans, large-scale projects are currently underway across the continent. Despite the challenging economic environment, these transformative initiatives span vital sectors such as energy, logistics, health, water, agribusiness, and education.

These critical investments play a pivotal role in enhancing competitiveness and the quality-of-service delivery. They form the nucleus of new ecosystems and attract skilled labor from across the continent and the globe, reduce dependency on foreign exchange, as well as contribute to capacity building across sectors. Such projects possess the capability to reshape entire industries within specific countries or regions, gradually redefining Africa’s position in the global economy.

The AFRICA BUSINESS DAY 2024 aims to provide participants with insights into transformative projects and initiatives on the continent. The event will explore the significance and challenges associated with such projects and initiatives featuring discussions with key stakeholders and partners. Additionally, the event will offer insights on how companies can leverage these projects and initiatives to expand their presence in African markets and how collaboration can be fostered with the public sector. The morning sessions will provide a macro perspective on the topic, while sector specific (health, infrastructure, and agribusiness) and thematic breakout sessions will feature in the afternoon.

The event will be organized as a hybrid event, allowing for in-person exchanges as well as for company representatives based across different regions to participate and network virtually. This event is a great opportunity to connect with players from the broader Swiss-African Business Community. Over 350 participants, from more than 30 countries and representing a variety of sectors will be attending the event. This will definitely open the field of possibilities in term of finding synergies and potential business collaboration within the African continent.

Africa Business Day 2023

In 2023, ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) was at the center of conversation and the following questions were addressed throughout the day:

Why do companies integrate ESG into their corporate activities? How do companies implement innovative, credible, and impactful ESG strategies? How can a green transition be balanced with the needs of African populations? How does the regulatory environment in Europe and on the African continent affect doing business in African markets? What is the key to measuring ESG? What role and responsibilities do SME’s have in all of this?
