AFRICA BUSINESS DAY 2019 – The annual platform for business between Switzerland and Africa
28 June 2019, hosted by Siemens Smart Infrastructure in Zug
The Africa Business Day is the indispensable annual platform in Switzerland for doing business in and with Africa. Africa Business Day, organized by the Swiss-African Business Circle, takes place under the patronage of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and brings together more than 150 participants including CEOs, members of the Board, business development managers, export managers and investors. During the event, African Embassies/Missions present investment opportunities in their respective countries at country desks in the dedicated exhibition area.
Theme for 2019: Overcoming the Infrastructure Gap in Africa
The AFRICA BUSINESS DAY 2019 will focus on infrastructure in Africa as it is an essential element for doing business on the continent. The African Development Bank estimates the continent has an annual infrastructure deficit of $90 billion. Therefore, the private sector has a critical role to play. This includes the need to develop reliable sources of energy production, efficient transport and communication systems without mentioning resilient sanitation and smart building infrastructure. Africa’s vast infrastructure deficit is a constraint on its growth but also an opportunity to leapfrog to new and more efficient technologies. There is however no quick fix to the current challenges and businesses need to adopt creative approaches to tackle them.
How are Swiss companies innovating to bridge the gap? This AFRICA BUSINESS DAY will explore solutions that generate new, decentralized value chains and ecosystems with the objective of having a positive impact on doing business in Africa
The presentations and sessions in the morning will set the tone for the day and give the audience an overview of the infrastructure gap at the macro level in Africa while focusing on the opportunities and challenges for Swiss companies and SMEs working to address this important issue. In the afternoon, concrete case studies, business models and examples will be featured in 3 different workshops, representing various sectors and focusing on specific solutions and innovations.
